Last Weekend's Update

I got back to Kitchener yesterday around 3pm... We had a busy weekend... we bought and installed some commercial carpet for the living room, to protect the wood floors until we're ready to redo them. Its a dark blue - gray colour... nothing fancy, no underpadding, just cut to fit so it doesn't move too much.

On Saturday, we drove up to Arnprior to the TSC that just opened and bought some dog kennel panels. They are chainlink, each section is 10 ft by 6 ft tall, and we bought 8 panels. It ended up making a roundish pen area that's about 25 ft in diameter. Not huge, but good for temporary use... plus we didn't need to dig any holes and installing them was so EASY and wonderful :)

First we drove up to Arnprior and bought the panels, then we went on a search to rent a truck. The one rental place in Arnprior only had a pick up truck and the bed was not really big enough to carry them back easily. We ended up renting a 16ft cube van from Budget in Kanata and driving that back up to pick them up.

2 guys that worked at TSC loaded them into the cube van for us and off we went. It was a brand new cube van, only had about 3000 km on it... nice enough vehicle and I made out ok driving it. When we got home we unloaded it and stood the panels up between two trees and then returned the cube van after topping up the diesel fuel.

We came home and assembled the dog run quickly and easily... in less time than it took us to pick them up and rent the truck etc.

We also uninstalled the sink in the downstairs bathroom... the same bathroom that has the toilet that's like a rocking chair. (The toilets are getting replaced within a week or so, the ones we picked were actually back ordered!!)

We tried to make the washer and dryer work out in the laundry room / downstairs bathroom, but its just not *quite* big enough for them to sit side by side in either direction. I've arranged for the delivery guys to come back next week, remove the pedestals and then stack them... they'll fit that way and that will make it so laundry can actually happen, which is very important :)

I also bought a lawn tractor this week... I hemmed and hawed for a long time about what to buy and how much $$ I wanted to part with. I stopped by Kubota to see what they had and they had a very comparable model to the John Deere I've been lusting after. It really came down to "do I want to drive orange or green and yellow"... so off to the JD dealer I went.

I was torn between buying the L140 and the X320. There is a $2k difference between them... for a variety of reasons, I sucked it up and wrote the big cheque for the x320. Its being delivered next week... same day that the guys are coming to make my laundry work. The x320 is a bigger, nicer, more sturdy feeling machine that seems like it will take the inevitable abuse we'll throw at it. I'm sure it'll be an awesome machine :)

Today Jess and I blitzed about the Kitchener house, we took down the projector screen... uninstalled all the speakers and components... we put all the cardboard boxes we dont need at the curb with a "free moving boxes" sign on them (they disappeared within 20 minutes!!)... we moved shelves and other stuff from upstairs to the main floor in preparation for Saturday's move. Busy busy. (I wore Jess out... she was already tired from her exam this morning... then all sorts of moving around... poor girl may not survive this move! ;) )

I think we're in good shape for the move so far... I'm not panicking ... yet... I've been working at it so long that I've done a lot of the work already. There are still things to do, but mostly last minute stuff now and just moving stuff to the main level from up and down... that should help cut down on the work for Saturday.

Tonight we're going to my parents for dinner... and I'm going to drop off some stuff that I'm not moving with us... mostly freezer stuff that I just cant take with me... too far to keep stuff frozen!! I'm looking forward to a good home cooked meal... we've had a fair bit of fast food and frozen dinners lately... while they are ok, they don't compare to mom's cooking, for sure!!
